Letter from the Chair

Life is full of surprises. When I joined the Ayots Horticultural Committee we typed out and printed the brochures and paperwork at home or on a generous friend’s printing system.

Now we have a website!

This year the show is on Saturday, 8 July, at Ayot Green.

The show starts at 2pm and will finish at dusk (but you need to bring your entries into the marquee by 9:30 am).

We are a wonderful Horticultural show, which unites our two villages: Ayot St Lawrence and Ayot St Peter, and all the friends we have gathered in between.

The essence of the show has remained the same, we want you to come and show your produce on the day and to have a great day out.

PARTICIPATE is the motto.

Come along, have fun, show your plants, cakes, art work, photos, vegetables, fruit, honey, eggs, scarecrows….. have a little thrill of anticipation when you come back to the main marquee to see if you have won a prize, or even a coveted trophy or a medal.

Do not miss our dog show, our new children’s activities and our famous Tug of War.  The afternoon events take place between 2 and 5pm, accompanied by live jazz from Jazz Freefall.

We will then start the “Ayot Fest”...we have four separate singers lined up for you, and Hal Fowler has agreed to compere the musical afternoon and evening, as we will be raising funds for his charity “Waste not, Want Not”. So sit back on our straw bales with your drink and enjoy the music till dusk.

Our show would not be the same without our lovely homemade cream teas, scones and cakes.  and the famous Pimms. Street food vendors will provide you with other delicious treats, throughout the afternoon and evening, including local ice creams. Tipis4Hire are lending us two giant tipis, so stylish, and beautiful at dusk with their twinkly lights.

We have a small army of volunteers helping us from start to finish but we could always do with more helpers and would really like to hear from you. Are you new to the area, or have a little more time on your hands, and would like to get involved? Do contact me if you can lend a hand.

Take part in this community project in all sorts of different ways, and you will help us raise funds for our local charities.

See you on Saturday the 8th,

Sarah-Jane Nall-Cain
